PSG-Metz: a solidarity match to financially help “students in need”

PSG is increasing its solidarity operations at the end of the year. On Tuesday, we were able to discover on social networks images of players from the first team visiting sick children at the Robert Debré hospital in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. On the program: jersey signings by Lucas Hernandez, game of “Poudre 4” with Randal Kolo Muani or even game of “Uno” with Ousmane Dembélé.

This Wednesday evening, as the end-of-year holidays approach and four days before Christmas Eve, a new operation will be carried out by the PSG Foundation. The Ligue 1 match against FC Metz has been renamed the “solidarity match” and will aim to raise funds for students in precarious situations.

“We are getting ready to have a great holiday but that is not the case for everyone,” recalls Fabien Allègre, vice-president of the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation. Many students are in need, precariousness is unfortunately not contained and we wanted to continue to support this cause, apart from the “Solidarity Canteens” operation organized throughout the year. » Two associations, Cop1 and StudHelp, are partners of the event.

Interviews and other speeches will be organized during the pre-match at the Parc des Princes and will notably make it possible to promote of a fundraiser launched on the Foundation’s website, with the possibility of offering the equivalent of a meal (10 euros), approximately a month or a year of food purchases (200 or 2,000 euros). “We try to be as close as possible to the budget allocated to food by the students,” explains Fabien Allègre.

The kick-off given by a beneficiary student

Because “the situation is quite catastrophic,” warns Florian Rippert, one of the three co-founders of the StudHelp association. Since September, we have received more than 5,000 requests for aid from students. Some sleep outside, others skip meals every day. »And according to a recent study carried out by the association founded in 2021, nearly 75% of students spend the end of year holidays alone.

In addition to the collection, nearly a hundred students will also have the pleasure of attending the match this Wednesday evening. “One of our beneficiary students in a very precarious situation but who is also one of our biggest volunteers, will kick off the meeting,” smiles Florian Rippert. An action that ties in with the genesis of its association, since it aims, beyond the simple distribution of food, to offer students the opportunity to create social connections and exchange with donors.

In addition to this solidarity displayed towards the students, other actions of the Foundation and other audiences targeted by it will be highlighted on the sidelines of the meeting. The escort kids this Wednesday evening, these children who accompany the players as they enter the pitch at the Parc des Princes, come from the “École Rouge et Bleu” program. The latter allows young schoolchildren aged 7 to 11 to be welcomed and supervised every evening after school and to benefit from sporting and educational activities. The system has been present since 2018 in the Val-Fourré district in Mantes-la-Jolie (Yvelines).
