Ratcliffe 25% Manchester United for 1.44 billion – Football

It’s official: Jim Ratcliffe has purchased 25% of Manchester United. The club announced it with a note which specifies that the multi-millionaire owner of Ineos, who beat the competition from the Qatari sheikh Jassim Al Thani, will pay 1.25 billion pounds, equal to 1.44 billion euros. This is the highest amount ever spent to acquire a minority share of a club. Ratcliffe has also committed to investing 300 million in the modernization of the Old Trafford stadium.

The majority of United remains in the hands of the Glazer brothers, Americans who however ensured Ratcliffe, former owner of Nice in France, the management of sports operations. Which is to say that the man considered the richest in the United Kingdom will have a free hand on football matters. For now he has limited himself to saying, after today’s announcement, that “we will return to what belongs to us, that is, to the top. In England, in Europe and in the world”.
