Remco Evenepoel’s Ambitions for the Upcoming Cycling Season Revealed

Remco Evenepoel was unanimously elected Sportsman of the Year on Sunday. This is of course not surprising after another top season for the Soudal Quick-Step rider. The ambition will be to do at least as well next season.

After the Sports Gala, Evenepoel was able to reveal a few things. This way he will definitely start in Liège-Bastogne-Liège. “I have already won Liège twice and would like to do it even more. But in the future it may happen – depending on my program – that I skip the Ardennes races.”

Furthermore, we already knew that Evenepoel would go to the Tour, but he now confirmed this himself. “The goal is to be in the top five. Pogacar, Vingegaard and Roglic are participating, the three gods of the Grand Tours. I would love to leave one of them behind. That would be a dream.”

Same preparation

Evenepoel was also very open about how he will prepare for the Tour. “I spent two months on a mountain before the Giro and Vuelta. That worked fine. We’re not going to change that. I will also try to take it easy when it comes to traveling and being away from home. I’m not going to do an extra altitude internship or anything in the winter.”
