Rising Star: Luka Doncic – The Magician of the Dallas Mavericks

The magician of the Dallas Mavericks seems to be one of the most promising young people, with his 201 cm, 104 kg and with the age of only 24 years, he has recently reached the milestone of 10k points, ahead of the young LeBron James.

CAREER

Luka Doncic is a Slovenian professional basketball player who currently plays for the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA as a wing guard. He was born on February 28, 1999 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Doncic began his basketball career playing for the youth teams of Union Olimpija Ljubljana, a Slovenian professional team. In 2015 he moved to Spain to play for Real Madrid’s youth team. He made his professional debut with Real Madrid’s senior team in 2015 at just 16 years old and has quickly established himself as one of the best young players in Europe.

In 2018, Doncic entered the NBA draft and was selected with the third overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks, but was then traded to the Dallas Mavericks in a trade for Trae Young. He quickly made a major impact in the NBA, winning Rookie of the Year in 2019 and was named an All-Star three times from 2021 to 2023.

Doncic is a versatile player who can play multiple positions and has excellent ball handling, passing and scoring skills. He is known for his ability to create shots for himself and his teammates, as well as for his coolness in the important “Clutch” moments of matches. He is also very good at rebounding due to his position, a skill that allows him to score several triple doubles between points, assists and rebounds.

THE 10K POINTS GOAL

With the 50 points scored against the Phoenix Suns in the 128-114 victory of his Dallas Mavericks, Luka Doncic reached 10,000 points scored in his career. The Slovenian took 358 games to reach the historic milestone, and is 7th in the all-time ranking of players who needed fewer games to achieve the feat. Better than him only legends like Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan, and behind him a certain LeBron James.

LUKA MAGIC SANTA CLAUS

Luka Doncic was the undisputed star of the NBA’s Christmas Day: the 24-year-old Slovenian basketball player scored 50 points combined with 15 assists in the match won by his Dallas Mavericks over Durant and Booker’s Phoenix Suns. Doncic is one of the brightest stars in the North American professional league, but also one of the most beloved characters, on and off the court. Which is especially true for his teammates, and not only because the fortunes of the Texan franchise pass through the plays of the former Real Madrid child prodigy, but also for the gestures that Luka ‘Magic’ makes in the locker room.

THE CONTRACT

The Slovenian superstar’s contract with the Dallas Mavericks expires in 2026, and he has a player option worth almost 49 million for 2026-27. You will not be able to sign the supermax extension in 2024, as it is reserved for players with at least 6 NBA seasons behind them.

NATIONAL

A year after the disappointment of the defeat in the semi-finals of the Tokyo Olympics, the Slovenian star of the Dallas Mavericks took sensational revenge against Rudy Gobert and Evan Fournier’s France, scoring a stunning 47 points to drag his team to first place in group A. Doncic rewrote the concept of dominance on the pitch: after scoring 27 in the first half, he continued to incessantly punish the French defense, finishing with 145/23 shooting, of which 9/12 from two, 6/11 from three and 11/12 on free throws, plus 7 rebounds and 5 assists. In this way he not only achieved the best performance of these European Championships (surpassing Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 41 at the Assago Forum) but even rose to second place in every era of the competition, behind only the 63 points of the Belgian Eddy Terrace way back in 1957.
