Rosal Judoka Verónica Pérez Pacheco Makes Mark at National and International Level

After several years competing in the base and junior categories, the O Rosal judoka, Verónica Pérez Pacheco, has completed her jump to the highest level in 2023. In August he won the silver medal in the absolute European championship held in Gaia, a warning of what was going to happen in this month of December, when he won the victory, and therefore the gold, in the Spanish championship held in Navarra in the – 57 kilos category.

These outstanding performances have led her to receive recognition this week from the O Rosal City Council, and she was congratulated at the town hall by the mayor Ánxela Fernández and the Sports Councilor José Carlos Crespo. In the time of Hoy por Hoy Baixo Miño we have spoken with Verónica about the successes recently achieved and her promising career, which has led her to be part of the Brunete Judo Club, the best team in Spain and the one trained by the main leaders in this sport. A preparation that combines with the study of the university degree in clinical and biomedical laboratory.

The Rosaleira judoka has also explained to us the difficulties in making a name for herself in this sport, since they hardly receive any aid until they reach the highest international level. At the moment she only has a subsidy from the Xunta de Galicia, which means that the clubs and also her parents are responsible for the cost of travel, accommodation or subsistence allowances. In this sense, the O Rosal City Council is studying the possibility of implementing direct aid to individual athletes subject to sports results.

Looking ahead to next year, Pérez Pacheco has received the call from the Spanish team to compete in a Grand Prix in Lisbon at the end of January, which will mark his first participation in a world-class event. Who knows if by Los Angeles 2028 there will be a representative of O Rosal in the Olympic Games.
