Two days after the Japanese star shared the choice he made about the team he will play with starting in 2024, the management of the Los Angeles Dodgers officially announced the signing of Shohei Ohtani as a new member of the club for the next 10 seasons in the MLB.

“On behalf of the Los Angeles Dodgers and our fans everywhere, we welcome Shohei Ohtani to the Dodgers, the home of Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax and Hideo Nomo, three of the game’s most legendary and innovative players. . We congratulate him on his historic contract with our historic franchise,” Mark Walter, President of the Dodgers and Guggenheim Baseball, mentioned in a statement. “Shohei is a once-in-a-generation talent and one of the most exciting professional athletes in the world. “Our players, staff, management and owners look forward to working alongside Shohei to help the Dodgers continue to add, improve and strive for excellence on the field.”

Hours before, the MLB Store in New York confirmed that Shohei Ohtani will use the number 17 that has distinguished him throughout his career, the same one used by the also signed reliever Joe Kelly, who was told that he could not have that number on his return to the Dodgers.

The agreement between Ohtani and the Angels is 64% more expensive than the previous record of 426.5 million that outfielder Mike Trout signed with the Angels and which began in 2019. His annual average of 70 million is 62% more than the previous record of 43 million 333,333 shared by pitchers Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander who signed with the New York Mets. His new salary is almost double what he had with the Angels.

To make room on the roster for Shohei Ohtani, the Dodgers sent Venezuelan Jorbit Vivas and Mexican Víctor González to the New York Yankees. Seventh Entry
