Wuelfrath. There was a great atmosphere at the Gymnastics Association Judoka City Championships. The young and older athletes showed off their skills to the numerous spectators in exciting fights.
“This great atmosphere certainly contributed to the success of the event,” says Uwe Püchel from TB Wülfrath. At the award ceremony, Roland Thömmes and Nicole Püchel looked back on the most successful year since the judo department was founded: there were two bronze medals at the European Championships for Sophie Püchel and Konstantin Distel; Sophie Püchel secured the title of German university champion for the second time after her success last year. There were also two bronze finishes at the German Championships for the two athletes, as well as fifth place at the World Championships for Konstantin Distel. All of these achievements are among the greatest successes of 2023. There were many other successes in tournaments by other fighters.
Furthermore, a number of activities were carried out for those interested in judoka sports in the current year.
The city champions this year were: Rocko Feuersänger, Justin Berk, Claas Zywietz, Lotta Westhoff, Damian Freistuhlr, Amelie Frohs, Joel Feuersänger, Alexandra Danowski, Frieda Schneider and Leroy Westhoff.
After the Christmas holidays, the gymnastics association’s judo department will begin training again in the Linden School for all members, but also new interested athletes.
