Although the FIA stated on Thursday that the investigation into possible conflicts of interest between Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff and his wife Susie will not be continued, Susie Wolff still wants to identify the instigator. Mercedes is considering legal action.

“For two days there have been insinuations made about me in public and in the background, but no one from the FIA has spoken to me directly,” Susie Wolff said in a statement on Friday.

“This entire episode has taken place without transparency or accountability. I have received hate online about my work and my family. I will not be intimidated and will continue until I find out who is behind this campaign and who has misled the media .”

Mercedes team boss and husband Toto Wolff said in a short statement that he was “in active legal discussions with the FIA”. Mercedes says it is waiting for “full transparency about what happened and why”. The team is considering legal action. “Therefore, no official comment will be made at this time.”

‘Worked too hard to let my reputation be questioned’

The issue started on Tuesday with a publication in the English monthly magazine Business F1 Magazine, which alleged that Toto Wolff passed on sensitive information from meetings with other team bosses to his wife Susie. She is the boss of the F1 Academy, a racing series for women. Susie Wolff is said to have leaked the information to Stefano Domenicali, the CEO of Formula 1.

Other team bosses are said to have complained about this to the FIA, but the nine other teams unanimously stated on Wednesday that there had been no complaints. On Thursday, the FIA announced that it is confident that there is sufficient policy within Formula One Management (FOM) to prevent conflicts of interest and the sharing of confidential information. The motorsport association is therefore not conducting any further investigation into Toto and Susie Wolff.

Susie Wolff is not satisfied with that. “I may have been harmed in a failed attack on someone else, or been the target of a failed attempt to personally defame me,” she said in the statement. “But I’ve worked too hard for my reputation to let it be called into question by an unsubstantiated press statement.”
