Craig Tiley has a lot to gain from a premium tour
The idea has already been described here: According to information from the American journalist John Wertheim, the four Grand Slam tournaments want to take place together with the nine Masters 1000 events (plus an additional one in this category, probably in Saudi -Arabia is to be played), create their own series – the “Premium Tour”.

Craig Tiley, the busy boss of Tennis Australia, seems to be at the forefront again. “The idea for this tour has been on the table for a few years now,” Tiley told Fox Australia a few days ago. And Tiley only sees the fact that people are now taking a closer look at it and working on implementation as a positive thing.
Gaudenzi wants to close the gap
“I think there is still a lot of work to be done and a lot of different parties to come to an agreement. But it is a great opportunity for tennis to bring our product to our fans in a more coordinated manner.” On the other hand, the majors are not dependent on it. “The Grand Slams have been extremely successful in the current environment and will continue to be so. These are the times when players mobilize everything because that’s when they can make the most money. But also be able to raise your profile worldwide.”
Andrea Gaudenzi, head of the ATP, said on the same topic on the sidelines of the ATP Finals in Turin: “It would be good for our sport if we could close the gap between the Masters and the Slams. The gap is currently very large.”
If this actually exists according to Craig Tiley’s idea and the top players only compete in the premium events (which Taylor Fritz would very much welcome), on the other hand, the tournaments in the 250 and 500 category will gradually disappear into insignificance. But that’s not in the spirit of tennis.
