Since Yannick Noah’s coronation in 1983, no Frenchman has won Roland-Garros. And yet, the Tricolores had a golden generation in recent years, notably Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gaël Monfils. These two players also managed to reach the semi-final of the Parisian Grand Slam.

With Wimbledon, l’US Open and theAustralian OpenRoland-Garros is one of the four Grand Slam tennis. Organized in France, and more precisely to the Porte d’Auteuil of Paris, the competition was won by 10 French players in total. Rene Lacoste was the first Frenchman crowned in 1925, beating his compatriot Jean Borotra in three sets (7-5, 6-1, 6-4). The following year, the defending champion was beaten in another Franco-French fratricidal fight in the final of Roland-Garros. Indeed, Rene Lacoste fell face to face Henri Cochet in three sets (6-2, 6-4, 6-3).

No French player has won Roland-Garros since Noah

In 1927, Rene Lacoste won a second crown at Roland-Garros, defeating the American William Tilden at the end of a huge five-set fight in the final (6-4, 4-6, 5-7, 6-3, 11-9). And in 1928, Rene Lacoste once again lost to his compatriot Henri Cochet (5-7, 6-3, 6-1, 6-3). One year later, Rene Lacoste lifted a third trophy Roland-Garros, overcoming the Frenchman Jean Borotra, whom he had already beaten in 1925. But this time the fight was much tougher (6-3, 2-6, 6-0, 2-6, 8-6). And unfortunately for René Lacoste, Henri Cochet also won his third title at Roland-Garros in 1930, bringing down William To that (3-6, 8-6, 6-3, 6-1). In the next edition, Jean Borotra won against his French compatriot Christian Boussus in the final (2-6, 6-4, 7-5, 6-4), beforeHenri Cochet did not reach four titles in 1932 (victory against the Italian Giorgo de Stefani, 6-0, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3). While the French were in the spotlight for eight years, we then had to wait until 1946 to see the trophy Roland-Garros stay in France. Indeed, Marcel Bernard was crowned thanks to his success against the Czech Jaroslav Drobny (3-6, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-3). Finally, the last French winner to Roland-Garros is nothing else that Yannick Noah, Swede’s killer Mats Wilander in 1983 (6-2, 7-5, 7-6).

Grosjean, Monfils and Tsonga played in the semi-finals

Despite its golden generation in recent years, the France did not see any of his players win Roland-Garros since the coronation of Yannick Noah in 1983. And alone Sébastien Grosjean (2001), Gaël Monfils (2008) et Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (2013 and 2015) failed to reach the final four of the competition.
