The Extraordinary Journey of Boban Marjanovic: From the NBA Court to the Big Screen

The Serbian Boban Morjanovic He is one of the most recognized figures of the NBAand much (or almost everything) is due to his height: 2.24 meters, which makes him the tallest player in the league along with the other basketball giant from the United States, Victor Wembanyama.

Stuck in the school line but light years away in terms of age: Boban is 35 years old while the Frenchman will turn 20 in a couple of weeks. And the two landed in North America with the same shirt, San Antonio Spurs.

Unlike Wembywho is already leading the Texans in his first season as rookie and for whom they predict a stellar future, Boban’s experience in the NBA was more difficult, and he managed to get ahead. His childhood, forged in times of war and death in the Balkans, must have had a lot to do with it.

A hardworking Bobi. He demonstrated it in his first season with the Spurs, in 2015, sharing a squad with Manu Ginobiliwho played his last years with the 20 shirt.

“Manu really helped me when I came to the NBA, he helped me develop my game and be better in every game, not only playing basketball, but also as a person,” Boban recently said of Ginobili. They understood each other on the field, with phenomenal assists from the Bahian to the Serbian and also off it.

“I learned Spanish by watching soap operas, it was something really important in my home. We were kids and we only saw that on TV,” he confessed with a laugh to the NBA Mexico channel.

Able to laugh at himself and with an innocence that contrasts with his imposing figure, the Serbian is one of the most beloved guys in the league, and he usually demonstrates this in his games with the fans and his occasional rivals.

“I love being with my friends, I love all people and spending time with them. That’s how I am, I don’t want to be someone I’m not. I try to be a good person and friendships come. You believe in them, I’m there for my friends and “My friends are there for me, that’s how friendships work. I always say that a person is only as good as the number of friends they have, and I’m talking about real friends,” he explained matter-of-factly.

In sporting terms, it could be said that Boban had to make an effort directly proportional to his height to remain among the NBA’s elite. He lasted (and played) briefly in San Antonio, went through Detroit, the Clippers and Philadelphia, until he finally put together three consecutive seasons with Luka Doncic’s Dallas Mavericks. Last year he was transferred to the Houston Rockets as part of a four-player combo in exchange for Christian Wood to the Houston Rockets along with three other players in exchange for Christian Wood, today in the Lakers.

Boban may not dazzle with numbers and statistics but he broke it as an actor. The Serbian is one of the many professional players who appears in the very good film Claw (o Hustle, according to its original name), starring Adam Sandler and all the rage on the Netflix platform. But he also excelled in the third installment of John Wick, the Keanu Reeves saga that became a classic of action cinema. There, Marjanovic plays a gangster who confronts the hero.

Boban’s hands are a viral phenomenon, and on the networks he himself plays a game called “Boban holding things”, in which he brutally exposes his immense size. He appears holding tennis balls, microphones, wine bottles, and even the hand of Milica Krstric, his wife since 2014, who he is 63 centimeters taller than.

Now, Boban’s latest surprise was showing himself with a deck of cards in his hand, an image that went viral on the networks and once again confirmed what this giant and friendly basketball player is made of.
