Thibau Nys Reflects on Cyclocross Season: From Comet to Fading Away

Thibau Nys started this cyclocross season like a comet, but then completely faded away. In the last weeks before his built-in rest and training period, the youngest Nys never competed for victory again. Where did it go wrong? The Baloise Trek Lions rider thinks he knows the answer.

First of all, Nys is looking with confidence towards his return to the field, which is planned for next Saturday in Antwerp. “I am ready to grow back to the level I was at the start of the season,” said Het Nieuwsblad. “Yes, Van Aert, Van der Poel and Pidcock will also be there in Antwerp on Saturday. Well, I’m really not concerned with that.”

The only thing that matters is Thibau Nys. “The only thing I’m concerned with now is myself. How do I become the rider I was at the start of the season again? I want to find that feeling again. I really don’t know how I’m going to return from this internship. But I do have the feeling that she will do me good.”

NYS KNOWS REASON FOR SETUP

Because how was it possible that Nys suffered such a setback after that great start? Of course, there is his young age, but he doesn’t think that’s an excuse. Nys thinks that it is caused by too little rest. “After the road season I did indeed have little rest. However, I will continue to race this year until the World Championships in Tabor, if I make the selection. This will be followed by two weeks of complete rest.”

And he may be looking forward to his return, but the doubts are still present. “I have them, a lot of them in fact. I am currently in a phase, both on the road and in the field, where there are many ups and downs. Less than last year, fortunately,” a positive note can still be said.
