Troubles for Mexican Archery Federation: CONADE Decides the Organization is Unknown by World Archery

The National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (Conade) requested the World Archery that was unknown to the Mexican Archery Federation (FMTA) after detecting administrative irregularities in 2013 and 2014, so it will no longer be taken into account as a National Sports Association.

The Conade found that 9 million 467 thousand 356 pesos were not verified, which adds to the embezzlement process against Effy Didier Sánchez Pérez, former president of the FMTA, for which she was sentenced to 2 years in prison, 300 days of fine, disqualification, reprimand, suspension of her political and civil rights, as well as compensation for damage in favor of Conade.

Since December 2022, World Archery warned that the Mexican institution would no longer be a recognized member due to illegal acts that Sánchez carried out during his mandate and therefore they were not eligible to receive financial support for the athletes. The FMTA announced that a committee would be created to establish a new organization that can regulate this sport, made up of former athletes, technical staff, representatives of CONADE and the Mexican Olympic Committee

The sport of arrows and wind as it has been popularly called is facing an adverse scenario. This discipline has become in one of the activities that has delivered the most medals to the country in different competitions, including the most important one, the Olympic Games.

In Central American, Pan American and World Games, Mexico has managed to dominate in this sport. In The recent Central American and Caribbean Games saw six gold medals, two silver and two more bronze medals. thus achieving the two-time overall championship in said contest. One of the protagonists was Alejandra Valenciawho was also in charge of winning the bronze medal along with Luis Álvarez at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Archery has supported one of the best athletes the country has ever had, Aida Román. The archer was in charge of winning seven gold medals and one silver at the 2010 Central American Games.
