Verweij thinks that Ajax will let go of these eight bad buys from Mislintat

Ajax is once again facing some hectic transfer periods, Mike Verweij believes. The journalist from De Telegraaf thinks that only four of the twelve purchases made by the dismissed director of football affairs Sven Mislintat have a future in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

“I think that John van ‘t Schip is very happy with Branco van den Boomen, who will be back after the winter break,” said Verweij in the Kick-off podcast. Van den Boomen immediately became a regular starter when Van ‘t Schip was appointed to Ajax on October 30, but the 27-year-old midfielder has been struggling with an injury since November 5.

Furthermore, Verweij thinks that Chuba Akpom can have a valuable role as a pinch hitter. The Englishman made little impression against PEC Zwolle (2-2) on Sunday. “That match showed that Akpom is not a number 10. He is only useful as a second striker next to Brian Brobbey, or as a number 9 instead of Brobbey.”

Mislintat’s third signing who can probably stay on is Diant Ramaj. The 22-year-old goalkeeper is Ajax’s permanent first goalkeeper under Van ‘t Schip. “He is young and deserves a chance, but he has not convinced me very much yet,” says Verweij.

The fourth name that could remain is Josip Sutalo, although Verweij openly doubts the qualities of the 23-year-old centre-back. “It’s not impressive yet,” says the Ajax watcher. “And that’s where I think it ends as far as Mislintat purchases are concerned.”

Benjamin Tahirovic, who came over from AS Roma for eight million euros, could leave again. “If they can get a good price for it, they will do it,” says Verweij.

Ajax is already working on a transfer for Georges Mikautadze. According to Voetbal International, FC Metz has reported for the return of the attacker, for whom at least sixteen million euros were paid. Metz could hire Mikautadze in January.

The other Mislintat purchases that could leave are: Carlos Forbs (acquired from Manchester City for at least 14 million euros), Gastón Ávila (for at least 12.5 million euros from Royal Antwerp), Borna Sosa (for at least 8 million euros from VfB Stuttgart), Sivert Mannsverk (for a minimum of 6 million euros from Molde FK), Anton Gaaei (for a minimum of 4.5 million euros from Viborg FF) and Jakov Medic (for a minimum of 3 million euros from FC St. Pauli).
