with 30 points in 24 minutes, Wembanyama begins to build his legend – Libération

Victor Wembanyama is an intergenerational talent and it is starting to seriously show. He was the man of the match last night, with 30 points scored in around twenty minutes against the Blazers.

We expected no less from “Wemby”, a young hopeful promised a career worthy of the greatest. The most anticipated French player of all time in the NBA demolished the Portland Trail Blazers defense last night, with 30 points and 6 assists in just 24 minutes – half a game. All with remarkable skill in front and behind the three-point line, finishing with 9 successful shots in 14 attempts, but also the free throw (10/10). And the former Metropolitans 92 player was not content to be monstrous offensively, adding 7 blocks to his score sheet.

“The alien” sows terror on both sides of the field from his height of 2.22 meters. At only 19 years old, the young player is, for the moment, already the best blocker in the entire NBA this season. Enough to think twice about attacking the giant. The San Antonio star is already following in the footsteps of the very best and should bring back good memories to Texan fans, becoming the second rookie to finish a game with at least 30 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 blocks. The first to achieve such a performance? There was David Robinson in 1990, Spurs too and then aged 24, but Wemby also took the opportunity to write his own history, becoming the first player – period – to score 30 points and 7 rebounds in less than 30 minutes of play.

Leading by 24 points at the end of the first quarter, San Antonio was not worried all night, and thus returned to victory after five defeats in a row. The Spurs therefore find themselves with a still inglorious record of 5 wins for 25 defeats, but should be able to count on the rise of their star player in the matches – and seasons – to come.
