Yonex French International Badminton Championships: A Preview of the Olympic Venue in Paris 2024

From March 5 to 10, the Yonex French International Badminton Championships will take place at the adidas arena, at Porte de la Chapelle (Paris 18th), the future theater of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Paris… before Paris. Next March, the Yonex French International Badminton Championships will take place in the capital. But not just anywhere: at the adidas arena. The inauguration of this infrastructure is scheduled for mid-February. In this brand new setting, the badists will seek the last points at stake to qualify for Paris 2024. The winners of the 5 tables will each leave with 11,000 points. The race for Olympic qualification, which takes into account the results obtained between May 1, 2023 and April 28, 2024, will make it possible to allocate the 35 quotas in singles (by gender) and the quota of 16 pairs per doubles discipline (doubles men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles). The hall will then also switch to Games mode with the hosting of the Olympic badminton events (July 27 to August 5, 2024) then the Paralympic para-badminton events (August 29 to September 2, 2024).

50,000 tickets already on sale

Due to its Super 750 status, the best players will be in Paris next March. Reigning Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen reigns supreme in the men’s singles. Winner of the 6 “biggest” tournaments of the HSBC World tour in 2023, the Dane will discover his future playground in the summer of 2024 and will want to win again in Paris after his title in 2022. In the 4 other tables, it is also the gratin who will be present. The French will not be left out. Led by the mixed doubles Delrue-Gicquel, they will be keen to shine in front of their audience.

Nearly 50,000 tickets are already on sale for the Yonex IFB 2024. A big bet and challenge for the FFBaD, accustomed to welcoming 20,000 people in previous editions of this event. The configuration of the room for this event provides for the reception of 6,000 people, an unprecedented scale for French badminton, allowing us to see even bigger. With the milestone of 200,000 licensees reached, badminton must ride on this popular success to continue its development by seeking new licensees from an ever-increasing pool of players.
