The 2024 U18 Austrian Championships took place in Bischofshofen on Saturday. A total of 166 judoka from 53 clubs from all nine federal states took part. In the end, 11 clubs were able to celebrate winning at least one title and 29 clubs won medals. Included are Matteo Gruber, – 60 kg and Johanna Kosel, -57 kg.
Johanna had to deal with 12 opponents. She lost the first fight, but was able to qualify for the consolation round. There was another defeat there, and after two fights the U18 state championship was over for them.
Matteo faced 16 opponents, won his pool, secured the semi-finals and advanced to the final. Unfortunately, after a minute and a half he had to accept the disqualification (Hansokumake) due to a technical error. “He could have won,” said David, who was there as a coach.
