Adrian Griffin Out as Milwaukee Bucks Head Coach; Joe Prunty Named Interim Coach

Adrian Griffin is no longer the coach of the Milwaukee Bucks. By timing, despite the largely positive record at the halfway point of the season (30-13), his dismissal is reminiscent of David Blatt’s departure from Cleveland. Waiting for the replacement, Joe Prunty will take over the role on an interim basisalready seen in the uncomfortable role of “ferryman” at the time of the Atlanta Hawks.

Bucks press release announcing dismissal of Adrian Griffin

The Bucks statement did not cite the reasons for the separation. According to reports from overseas, the coach never had an eye on the locker room. The first signs had arrived, after all, with the abrupt farewell of a prominent assistant and former NBA head coach like Terry Stotts. John Horst, Milwaukee GM, commented in a few words the franchise’s choice to break.

It was a difficult decision to make in the current season. We are working immediately to appoint a new head coach. We would like to thank Coach Griffin for his hard work and contributions to the team.”

According to ESPN, Doc Rivers is in pole position to take over from Griffin, who was facing his first season as an NBA head coach after years as an assistant and a past as a player in the league.
