Alexander Zverev to Stand Trial for Alleged Attacks on Ex-Partner and Non-Payment of Fine

Alexander Zverev will be tried starting May 31 in Berlin for alleged attacks on his ex-partner and not having accepted the payment of a fine of 450,000 euros ruled by the court of the German capital, as confirmed by a spokeswoman for the Tiergarten district court. .

In October 2023, the court imposed on the athlete the payment of a fine of 450,000 euros (90 daily installments of 5,000 euros each) for attacking his ex-partner. However, the tennis player rejected the accusation and appealed the ruling, so the case will now go to trial.

According to the court spokesperson, in principle eight days of trial are scheduled until July 19. It has not yet been decided who will be called to testify as a witness and as the case concerns a sanction order, Zverev, who is innocent until there is a final sentence, may be represented by a lawyer.

The 26-year-old player is accused of physically abusing his ex-partner, now co-plaintiff, during an argument in Berlin in May 2020. Last October, when the sentence was announced, the athlete’s lawyers stated that the allegations in those on which the sanction order was based had already been refuted by an expert opinion from a Berlin forensic doctor.

The procedure suffers from “the most serious procedural violations,” the defense said in a statement, announcing that the tennis player will take measures against this situation with “all means.” Zverev himself commented, in the last Hamburg tournament, he already “completely” rejected the accusations, without saying anything more about it.
