Pinar del Río, January 8 (ACN) — Alexei Ramírez, former member of the Chicago White Sox, is on the list of athletes that make up the pre-selection of the Vegueros de Pinar del Río team for the 63rd National Baseball Series (SNB).
Heriberto Suárez, provincial commissioner of the sport, explained to Radio Guamá that the 42-year-old former major leaguer is ready to play in the Cuban championship.
He is currently going through the pertinent procedures, he said when referring to the Pinar del Río native, once a member of the westernmost Cuban national team, with which he participated in events such as the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens; the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games in Cartagena; the First World Baseball Classic in 2006; and the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Ramirez was also on the casts of the Tampa Bay Rays and the San Diego Padres in 2016.
Alexei completes the list of 13 infielders of the Pinar del Rio pre-selection, also composed of five catchers, 13 outfielders and 22 pitchers.
For this roster were taken into account the performances in the Provincial Series, the Elite League, the projection as talents of some athletes and the willingness of others who reside outside the country to join (Humberto Rivera and Heisell Baro), said Suarez Pereda.
