The Medical Instinct Veilchen BG 74 Göttingen achieved revenge in the Basketball Bundesliga for the depressing 56:85 defeat at the start of the season against BC Marburg.

Marburg/Göttingen – Coach Ruzica Dzankic’s team ultimately won the second leg against the Hessians with 75:65 (35:31) and drew level on points with the Marburg women and TS Saarlous.

The guests got off to a great start with the Japanese Yuka Maeda with a successful three-point throw, which the Violets extended to 11-0 after four minutes before the hosts scored their first points at 2:11. In the period that followed, the Göttingen women’s concentration waned until the first quarter, so that the BC was able to reduce the lead to 16:17.

Regan Schenck took the first lead for the Hessians 22:21 in the 13th minute, and Schenck was also responsible for the 27:26 (16th). The game went back and forth, with the violets countering the BC’s biggest lead of 44:41 through Michaela Vanderklugt to make it 44:41 with an insane 17:0 run from 41:44 to 58:44 – a preliminary decision.

With a 7-0 run, the Marburg girls came from 48:60 to 55:60, but the guests couldn’t let the victory be taken away from them. The Belgian Alice Bremer ensured the final score of 75 with a two-point throw: 65.

Although the BG 74 arrived with a complete squad of twelve players, Melanie Crowder, Annika Oevermann and Thalia Kretschmar were not used. The main burden was borne by Chelsea Waters, who achieved a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds in 33:32 minutes of playing time in what was probably her best game for the Violets. With 34:52 minutes, playmaker Jennifer Crowder was on the floor the longest, scored 15 points and gave seven assists. The guests’ best thrower was once again the American Alison Cyreena Lewis, who scored 22 points in her 31:57 minutes of action. Yuka Maeda (11) also scored in double figures.

With this victory, the Göttingen women achieved their two away wins, which were not necessarily to be expected.
