It’s not next season that the Cégep de Rimouski Football Pioneers will show up to a game with an incomplete roster.
The recruiting work of head coach Maxim Lépinay is producing results that we have not seen in Rimouski for several seasons. Since the resumption of the period authorized for recruiting in Quebec, he has added seven players to his roster after very good results in December.

Players recruited in January
- Lucas Côté Defensive Back Mistral Mont-Joli
- Liam Adam-Xavier Select Defensive Back Paul-Hubert
- Samael Gagnon Select Linebacker Paul-Hubert
- Riley Whittaker Offensive Line Odyssey NB
- Vincent Maicas Receiver Odyssey NB
- Joseph Timothée Linebacker Saint-Hyacinthe
- Anzou Armani Linebacker Saint-Hyacinthe
The commitment of Whittaker, a solid guy from the Odyssey Olympians program in Dieppe, particularly pleases him. It is coveted by universities in the Maritimes.
“We are heading towards a spring camp of 80 to 85 players,” mentions Lépinay who has other important files still open on his table.
In training
This camp will take place over three weekends, instead of just one, as has been the case for several years. It will be held on Saturday 11, Saturday 18 as well as Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May at the Guillaume-Leblanc Sports Complex.
In the meantime, the veterans are at work every day of the week in the Pioneers weight room and gymnasium. In addition, starting this Sunday, February 4, the Pioneers will hold practices in the Premier Tech indoor stadium in Rivière-du-Loup.
“It’s going very well so far. Everyone is present. We have great facilities with the room The Zone which allows us to count on our 35 veterans at the same time. It develops family spirit. In Rivière-du-Loup, we are going to go there every two weeks, starting this Sunday, February 4, without equipment, for an hour and a half. But, the real camp will begin on February 18, with the equipment, for a duration of three hours,” specifies coach Lépinay.
Université
Samuel Rafiki
Furthermore, two players who completed their college training with the Pioneers last fall were recruited to play in the university ranks. They are Samwel Rafiki and Tristan Zurdo.
The first, a defensive back, will join the University of Ottawa Gee Gees while Zurdo, a player originally from France, was recruited by the Bishop University Gaiters. He played on the offensive line with the Pioneers.
