HIGÜEY, LA ALTAGRACIA. The Savica and Antonio Guzmán clubs won on Wednesday in the first day of action of the semifinal series of the 48th La Altagracia Superior Basket Tournament (TBS Higüey), matches played on the Leo Tavárez roof.
With their victories, both teams have placed their semifinal rounds at 1-0: A between Savica and Cambelén, and B, Antonio Guzmán against the Center, agreed to the best of 5-3.
The Savica club, which is directed by Carlos Medina and had a record of 8-2 in the regular season, defeated the Cambelén squad 78-71, with 19 points from Dayker Cedano.
Cedano added eight rebounds and four assists, was supported by Roderick Guzmán 17, imported Timothy Bond a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Welin Rosa and Manuel Suero had seven with 11 and nine balls, respectively.
For the losers, Richard Polanco achieved double figures of 24 points and 12 rebounds, José Luis De la Cruz scored 22 points, Junior Fortuna 15 points, six sacks and six assists, and Francisco Campusano finished with eight baskets and 10 caught balls.
Antonio Guzmán dominates
The Antonio Guzmán club dominated the Centro team 96-94 this Wednesday, with a double-double from Brayan De la Cruz of 32 points plus 13 rebounds, and Yeison Feliz scored 25.
With De la Cruz and Feliz, Beethoven Castillo stood out with 16 points plus seven assists, and Luis Ángel Ramos closed with 13 baskets with 10 caught balls.
In the reverse, American reinforcement Michael Warren scored 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and natives Albert Fernández had 18 points with eight assists, and Leo Reynoso scored 10 points and got 10 balls in the restricted zone.
The fair is dedicated to Rolando González Bunster, Executive Director of Inter Energy Group (CEPM RD), organized by Monsignor Jesús Castro Marte, Bishop of La Altagracia, who heads the Organizing Committee, and Jorge Tavárez, president of ABAPA.
