Sirianni aims to reestablish himself following the Eagles’ downfall.
Sirianni, the head coach of the Eagles, indicated that changes will be made to the way the offensive coaches are organized due to a downturn in performance towards the end of the season. He also stated that as he begins his fourth year in this role, he approaches it with the mindset of needing to demonstrate his abilities once again.
CloseTim McManus reports on the Philadelphia Eagles for ESPN. He became a part of ESPN in 2016, having previously covered the Eagles for Philadelphia Magazine’s Birds 24/7, a website he co-founded in 2010. You can stay updated with his work by following him on Twitter @Tim_McManus.
There was speculation about Sirianni’s job stability and he also had a meeting with CEO Jeffrey Lurie. Sirianni referred to the meeting as “normal business” even though offensive coordinator Brian Johnson and defensive coordinator Sean Desai were fired in the days following.
Sirianni stated that the search for a new offensive coordinator was thorough, in an effort to bring in someone with innovative ideas following a stagnant finish to the offense. While Sirianni typically had the offensive coordinator make play calls during his time with the Eagles, he has always considered it to be his own offense. However, it seems that the new coordinator will have more autonomy in terms of creativity.
Sirianni stated, “In my thoughts, I am considering how I can improve myself.” He continued, “As a young coach, I was entrusted by Mr. Lurie, Howie, and the organization to take on this role. I had to demonstrate that I was capable of leading the organization as they had requested, and I have been proving myself ever since. Did I need to convince Lurie of my vision? No, because it was just business as usual. However, after our 1-6 finish, I am determined to prove them right once again.”
Sirianni and Howie Roseman, the general manager, held a press conference on Wednesday to recap the end of the season. This came nine days after the Eagles’ wild-card defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which was their sixth loss in seven games after starting with a record of 10-1.
Tim McManus, a writer for ESPN.Jan 24, 2024, 05:17 PM ET“We got a lot of good targets that we’re working through,” Sirianni said when asked about Fangio. “And a lot of guys who have done really well in their interview process and look forward to continuing that process and we’ll see what happens.”
The speaker mentioned that the situation may be quite similar to the current one. They wondered if this would result in attending more defensive meetings occasionally, instead of always being in offensive meetings. However, their role is to be the overall head coach of the team, not just focusing on one aspect such as offense, defense, or special teams.
Sirianni stated that he is looking for an individual with a strong vision and leadership skills to take on the role of calling plays and coaching the quarterback. Ultimately, his main focus is finding the right person for the job. As for his own responsibilities, he will be overseeing the offense and its performance. If the new coordinators are handling their respective sides of the ball, what will be Sirianni’s role?
The Eagles are reportedly close to hiring Vic Fangio as their new defensive coordinator. Fangio, who recently left the Miami Dolphins, is expected to be the top choice for the team. This information comes from sources speaking to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Jeremy Fowler.1 Related”The head coach of the football team,” he responded.
This involves establishing and maintaining our culture, ensuring that it aligns with our five fundamental principles. It also entails fostering a strong bond with the members of the football team, as I believe that when that connection exists, our culture operates at its best.
