Dominican Baseball Star Adrián Beltré Visits Hall of Fame in Cooperstown

Just two days after being elected to Hall of Fame of Cooperstownwith 95.1% of the votes of the members of the Baseball Writers Association of the United States, the Dominican Adrián Beltré visited the museum where he will be inducted on July 21.

“I am very Dominican and I am very proud of my country and knowing that there have been many good players and until yesterday we only had four of them in the Hall of Fame For me it was a great event,” Beltré said in an interview with MLB.com

Beltré took photos in front of Juan Marichal’s presentation, played with a bat and observed the place where his plaque will be placed on display, as the fifth Dominican to be inducted into the Hall of Fame of Cooperstown. He also affixed his signature on the spot.

The native of Haina became the Dominican with the best votes to enter Cooperstown in a first appearance on the ballot, surpassing the 91.3% that Pedro Martínez received at his induction.

“I have always loved baseball, for many years I followed everything that had to do with baseball and all the Dominicans who played before and after me with all the young people who have arrived; but this is a great event because this is not for me, but for the entire country,” said Beltré.

Beltré also stated that he began to think about his chances of reaching Cooperstown when midway through his stay with the Texas Rangers, several journalists covering the team told him about the possibility.

“They came to me and said, hey, we know you don’t want to hear this but if you stay healthy you might have a real chance and I told them get out of there I don’t want to hear that but then, my son is a baseball nerd and always We talked about statistics and he told me after I retired that yes, I had good chances,” said the new member of the Hall of Fame.
