HOLY DOMINGO THIS. The Eugenio María de Hostos club was awarded as “Club of the Year” within the framework of the annual awards of the Basketball Association of the Province of Santo Domingo (Abasado), for its outstanding performance throughout the year 2023.
The award ceremony took place on Sunday in an atmosphere of fraternity among the club leadership of the Province of Santo Domingo on the court of the emblematic Los Mina club, in the sector of the same name in the Santo Domingo Este Municipality.
Eugenio was distinguished for its excellent location among the first places in the tournaments organized by Abasado and its president William Cabral Lugo (Nemeneme).
Those proclaimed were champions in the youth and intermediate men’s categories, a second place in the women’s intermediate and came third in the minibasketball for girls.
Cabral Lugo (Nemeneme), on behalf of the Abasado board, presented the cup that accredits Eugenio María de Hostos as Club of the Year, which was received by Alan Herrera and Luis Pimentel (Papito), Secretary of Sports and President of that entity, which is located in the Housing sector in the Eastern Municipality, and José Acosta Padre.
The main executive of Abasado, at the awards ceremony, was accompanied by the other members of the board such as José Esteban Borromé, Agustín Matos, Maritza Acevedo, Juan Carlos Medina and Domingo de la Rosa, among others.
Other winners
Other categories that were awarded fell to the Los Frailes club, which was champion in the men’s minibasketball, and in the women’s minibasket the Pueblo Nuevo club from Villa Duarte won.
In the women’s intermediate the Los Caribes club; in men’s children’s club La Francia Nueva; and for women, the Calero club. In the upper division, Trenes de Santo Domingo Norte won, under the management of Domingo de la Rosa (Moreno), president of the Los Caribes club.
The technical staff was also awarded and received the young judge Gerlin Batista as Referee of the Year, and the Best Scorer was Maikel Rodríguez.
