French Archers Gear Up for Olympic Games Selections as Nîmes Club Members Advance

Victoria Sébastian, Baptiste Addis and Jean-Charles Valladont successfully passed the first stages of the selections. Pierre Plihon, injured in a finger, had to give up. He even announced the end of his career.

Three members of the Arc club of Nîmes are still in the running for selection for the Olympic Games and at least one of them, a boy, will be in the final selection.

Next summer, in Paris, France will be represented by three men and three women. In each category, there are only four left. Among them, the ACN is in force, with two boys, Jean-Charles Valladont, the 2016 Olympic vice-champion, and the young Baptiste Addis, and a woman, Victoria Sebastian.

Intensive workouts

They were held back by the Korean coach of the French federation who tightened the two groups by removing two archers and two archers. Among them, Pierre Plihon who will not participate in these third Olympics after Rio and Tokyo. The Nîmes man is injured in a finger on his rope hand. “Everything was tried but he couldn’t continue. The workouts are intensive. Some days, archers shoot up to six hundred arrows” says Olivier Grillat, the sports director of the Arc club in Nîmes. At 34, Pierre Plihon decided to end his career.

The six archers from the France group will continue their preparation in different tournaments at the end of which the coach will make his choice. They will obviously be present on Friday January 19, Saturday January 20 and Sunday January 21 at the Nîmes round of the indoor World Cup which will take place at the exhibition center and at Parnasse. More than a thousand archers from almost every continent are expected, of which around forty will be at the Parisian global event this summer.
