Arne Slot angry after journalist’s comparison: ‘Really embarrassing that you say this’

Arne Slot gave quite some resistance on Wednesday evening during the press moment after the 1-0 cup victory over PSV. Feyenoord’s success coach was compared to Atlético Madrid coach Diego Simeone by a journalist present, but was absolutely not pleased. Slot believes that he remained calm during the cup cracker in De Kuip.
Towards the end of the press conference, the journalist made the comment in question. “That uproar at the end. It was just about Mourinho… Then I thought for a moment that Diego Simeone was also standing on the sidelines when I saw you doing it. How did you experience that?”

Slot makes it clear what he thinks of the comment. “That’s really embarrassing that you say that. Then I would like to ask you to look back at the images, because I just stood very quietly on the sidelines. No more than that. At the end I just asked if it was a throw-in or a free kick, in peace. Because that makes a big difference in how my players have to position themselves.”
Slot believes that he has actually remained calm. “Everyone flew around me, but I just stayed standing. So if you want to frame me like that, be my guest. But that is not true at all. I was really completely calm and not once did I say anything to the fourth official or said to the referee.”
Penaltymoment
In his interview with ESPN, Slot made no secret of the fact that PSV should have been awarded a penalty. “I always have to be careful with statements about arbitration, but I understand the frustration of the PSV players. I have had that frustration several times this year and I know how close it sometimes is, especially in top matches. “
“You can certainly give a penalty for this,” said Slot. “It is a penalty. Just as it is frustrating for us that we did not get a penalty in Enschede, because I complain too much about the arbitration, it is also frustrating for other trainers. I do want to admit that this was a penalty.”
The match ultimately ended in a 1-0 win for Feyenoord, meaning the Rotterdam team continued in the TOTO KNVB Cup. Another home game awaits in the quarter-finals. On February 7, AZ travels to De Kuip.
