The Genzano community gave its big hug this afternoon in the central church, in Corso Don Minzoni, to Luigia Pomezia Campagna in Giovannangelli, the historic cook who together with her children Loredana and Alessandro have managed the well-known and historic Trattoria “Dar Parente” for many years , in the area of via Usa close to via Appia Nuova.
Also speaking were the deputy mayor of Genzano Luca Lommi, the councilor Roberto Silvestrini, the city councilors Emiliano Leoni and Luca Temofonte, friends of the Campagna-Giovannangeli family.
The funeral Mass was celebrated by Don Andrew, the priest from Sierra Leone, a close collaborator of the parish priest Monsignor Pietro Massari.

Even the Genzanese singer-songwriter Luca Guadagnini did not want to miss out on remembering and saying farewell to the legendary Pomezia, remembering her in this way: “She was an exceptional woman, who had lived through the dark years of the war as a child, but had never lost her strong and positive spirit, as a true, tenacious, seven-generation Genzanese. At the Rock for a Child event, at the PalaCesaroni in May, she was always present, in the front row, she came 3 hours early to take one of the first places, she was a constant and encouraging presence. And together with his family he contributed in a very enthusiastic and altruistic way to the success of the evening and often hosted many of us in his Trattoria preparing truly tasty dishes, much appreciated even by the most famous artists and singers. woman, wife, mother, grandmother, cook, with a great human and professional profile, she loved telling anecdotes of the past always with a smile and the strong sense of humor with which she was gifted. Together with great humanity, generosity and altruism, a heavy loss for the entire community of Genzano.”
Also in the church were the two former mayors of Genzano, Giancarlo Pesoli and Enzo Ercolani, who together with the historic first citizen of Genzano Gino Cesaroni, had the opportunity to know Pomezia Campagna well and collaborate with her on many initiatives. “Like the historic Feste dell’Unità – declared councilor Roberto Silvestrini – where she and her husband Angelo, in the Olmata and Viale delle Regioni Park, always cooked real delicacies for everyone, made of local dishes. And she was also always willing to participate in the Flower Festival, with the typical Genzanese clothes of the past and in many other cultural and recreational activities with a zealous and positive spirit, which she also passed on to her children Loredana and Alessandra and to her beloved grandchildren, who today they manage the historic Genzanese Trattoria Dar Parente”.
Volunteers from the Genzano Proloco and representatives of other Genzano cultural and folklore associations, local restaurateurs and shopkeepers, as well as dozens of customers of the Trattoria, friends, relatives from Genzano and other municipalities in the Castelli also attended. Mrs. Pomezia’s body was then transported by the hearse of the Bernoni agency to the Genzano cemetery, followed by a long procession on foot. She will remain there for a few hours awaiting cremation which will take place in the next few days in the province of Caserta. Pomezia was 85 years old, she was born immediately after the foundation of the town near the Castelli Romani which bears her name and which was founded in June 1938. Probably, as she herself said, her father gave her that singular and unique name, to this reason.
The name “Pomezia” seems to derive from the Latin “Pomum”, which means apple. But the name of the seaside town also derives from the toponym of an ancient Volscian or Latin city, Suessa Pometia, whose position is still unknown. But in Genzano, the only unforgettable Pomezia, which everyone will always remember, will only be her, with her goodness, her friendliness, her way of cooking and being altruistic and generous.
