In recent years, Freyer has already taken over as a firefighter in Oldenburg and at Syntainics MBC, getting the clubs back on track. Most recently he was also in discussion at Kellerkind Crailsheim.

Heidelberg holt den Basketball-Neururer!

“It was important to us at this stage to find a coach with BBL experience. We found this in Ingo and we are glad that he chose Heidelberg,” says Matthias Lautenschläger, managing partner of Heidelberger.

It is important to him to emphasize that the bottom team can also imagine a long-term collaboration with Freyer. Lautenschläger: “The term fireman precedes Ingo, which falls far short of describing his abilities. He has proven at several locations that he can work successfully in the long term.”

Freyer had his best years at Phoenix Hagen. Between 2007 and 2016 he established the club in the Bundesliga and made a conscious effort to rely on young German talent. His era ended involuntarily in November 2016 when South Westphalia had its Bundesliga license revoked.

Freyer says about the new job: “Heidelberg is a very good basketball location. My job now is to lead the team to victories. We still have a lot of games ahead of us and will work hard and intensively to get on the road to success.”

Freyer will be on the sidelines for the first time on Sunday (5 p.m./DYN) when the Heidelberg team will be challenged by the Löwen Braunschweig. Then the mission to stay in the league begins!
