The GISA Lions MBC won an impressive 81:70 (36:35) away win against the Saarlouis Royals on the last match day of the year. With a record of 7:6 wins, the Halle women consolidated sixth place in the table on the 13th matchday of the Toyota DBBL and, after 70:78 in the first leg, won the direct comparison against the currently eighth-placed Saarland women (5:8 wins).

The lead changed 13 times in the first half. The Lionesses were able to quickly pull ahead to 14:7, but fell behind 14:18 after a weak phase with four and a half minutes without a basket. In particular, they couldn’t get Bundesliga top scorer Destiny Littleton, who scored 18 of her 20 points before the break, under control. After a buzzer beater by Sabrina Haines, the team went into halftime with a narrow 36:35 lead.

The final spurt ensures clear conditions
After the break, the Halle team pulled ahead twice: in the 24th minute to 48:38, but Saarlouis came back to four points by the end of the quarter (58:54). And in the 34th minute it was 70:58, but again the lead dwindled to four points (70:66). Taylor Robertson with a three-pointer to make it 73:66, Courtney Warley with a layup to make it 75:68, both on an assist from Joyce Cousseins-Smith, and then the captain herself with a three-pointer to make it 79:68 ensured the deserved victory.
Head coach Timur Topla was completely satisfied with his team after the game in Saarlouis: “It was a great game for the girls. Saarlouis tried everything with different forms of defense. But we always found a solution on offense. Defensively, we controlled Destiny Littleton, who caused us big problems in the first half, well after the break. When it mattered most, we worked very well as a team.”
MBC head coach Timur Topal was extremely satisfied with the end of the year.
