Isaiah Hartenstein Shines for New York Knicks as He Eyes National Team Spot

The German-American Isaiah Hartenstein continues to underline his value for the New York Knicks in the NBA and thus also promotes himself with a view to the national basketball team. The team from the Big Apple won 121:105 at the Washington Wizards on Saturday. Hartenstein was in the starting five as a center and had a great influence under the basket with 19 rebounds.

The 25-year-old narrowly missed his previous career high in the NBA (20 rebounds), which he had set just three days earlier in the win against the Chicago Bulls. In the absence of the injured starting center Mitchell Robinson, Hartenstein was once again impressive. With a good 39 minutes, he was on the floor that evening for longer than any other professional in the Capital One Arena. Hartenstein was particularly impressive defensively and also contributed eight points.

The son of former Bundesliga player Florian Hartenstein was not part of the German World Cup team last year, but recently confirmed his desire to play for the national team again.

For the first time in his almost six-year NBA career, Hartenstein started consistently from the start. Due to Robinson’s injury (ankle), this is likely to remain the case for the rest of the season and thus towards the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The Knicks have won all four games since the turn of the year and are now clearly on course for the play-offs as fourth in the Eastern Conference.
