Italians on the rise but far from the medals after two Gold Fleet regattas

They continue unabated in Mar del Plata (Argentina) i 2024 ILCA Women’s Singles World Championships 6scheduled until Wednesday 10 January and also valid as a global qualifying event for the 2024 Paris Olympics (7 non-nominal quotas will be assigned among the non-qualified countries through the 2023 world championship).

Today, on the first day of the Finals and the fourth overall day of racing, two Gold Fleet races were completed out of the three scheduled the day before. Tomorrow the organizers will try to complete three more regattas with the gold fleet, in order to reach the planned total number of races (ten) in the Opening Series before the decisive Medal Race with double points and reserved only for the best 10 of the general.

Italy’s pursuit of medals is becoming more complicated, as they can still sleep soundly from the point of view of the five-ring pass (obtained last summer in Den Haag) to Paris. Silvia Zennaro remains the best of the Italians, rising to 21st place overall with 81 net points (27-8 partial), but they also recover ground Chiara Benini Floriani 24th with 92 (15-14) e Carolina Albano 26th with 97 points (18-15). At the moment the last one virtually admitted to the Medal Race would be the Belgian Emma Plasschaert, tenth with 50 points.

More troubled in the Gold Fleet Matilda Talluri (BFD-25) e Giorgia Della Valle (37-42), respectively 44th and 49th overall. Important push towards the world title for the Dane Anne-Marie Rindomoverall leader at +12 on the Norwegian Line Flem Hoest and at +19 on the Portuguese Vasileia Karachaliou.
