“We were losing 1:5 after two periods, but even so, in the second break, I appealed to the boys in the cabin that we have to prove to the fans in the last part that we can put our heart into the game. After all, it was almost a full house,” explained Kometa coach Jaroslav Modrý. “Anything can happen in hockey even in such conditions. That was confirmed. He is very beautiful in that. We pulled together and showed character at the end of the game. The extra time didn’t work out for us, but even a point against such a strong opponent is good,” he said.
After Sunday’s 4:3 win in extra time in the Pardubice hall, the Brno team did not come out empty-handed even in the next match against one of the main aspirants for the title, which was played after three days. Defender Daniel Gazda contributed to this with the second hat-trick in the top competition of his career.

“It’s not certain yet, because Tomáš Marcinko is said to have had the puck on my last shot. Maybe there will be a change. However, this is not very important. It certainly wouldn’t take away the joy from the fact that we closed such a huge deficit,” he smiled.
The owner believed that his team kicked to a rarely seen finish quickly reducing to 2:5 at the beginning of the last twenty minutes. “Giving Pardubice five goals in a third period is great. It is a huge boost for us. And it should help our psyche,” he believed.
He regretted a little that the people from Brno failed to complete a turnaround in the setting and thus imitate the Czech twenty in the fight for bronze at the recent world championship. “However, the second point for Pardubice is probably fair given the fact that we chased everything at the last minute,” he acknowledged.

For some time, Kometa lost defender Radek Kučerík, who suffered a laceration on his leg during one of the fights in the middle of the match and left the rink on a stretcher. He thus joined the Canadian quarterback Holland.
“Of course, it is a significant weakening and a big problem for us. On the other hand, this is a great chance for one of our young backs to grab an opportunity by the scruff of the neck. In almost the same situation, years ago in Zlín, I moved from a junior team permanently to an extra-league team,” recalled Gazda.

The Brno team is still missing goalkeeper Dominik Furch, who has already started training with the team after his injury, but the doctors do not recommend him to return to goal yet. Only eighteen-year-old Jan Kavan and Štěpán Lukeš step in for him. Kavan helped Kometa win in Pardubice with an excellent performance at the weekend, but on Wednesday he was on the substitutes’ bench after Dynamo’s fourth goal.
Modrý did not deny that the Brno club is looking for reinforcements in goal. “But I’m a coach and I work with the goalkeepers I have here now. And substitute Lukeš gave us and Pardubice a chance to do something more with the match,” he claimed.
