Kylian Mbappé on his future at PSG: “I haven’t made my decision yet”

His speech was expected as he can join any club next year since January 1st. After scoring a sumptuous goal and allowing PSG to win (2-0) at the expense of Toulouse, Kylian Mbappé invited himself to the mixed zone after the match. And obviously there was talk of his future…

Starting the year 2024 with a title should motivate you for the future…

KYLIAN MBAPPE. Yes of course. We are very happy. We wanted to start the year with this trophy. It’s important to keep this positive spiral in terms of finals and trophies. It was a match that was not simple but we made it a little complicated and then we were able to control it even if we had moments of difficulty. But for a restart match it was still satisfying and we are happy to go home with the Cup.

You have been free to join the club of your choice for a few days. Have you made your decision and have an agreement with someone?

No already, I am very very motivated for this year. Its very important. As I said, we have titles to go for and we have already taken one. Afterwards I haven’t made my decision yet. I didn’t make a choice. With the agreement that I made with the president this summer, regardless of my decision, we managed to protect all parties and preserved the serenity of the club for the challenges to come, which remains the most important. So we will say that it is secondary.

During your first extension in 2022, you decided at the end of May. Will the timing be different this time?

I do not know. It was late May in 2022 because I didn’t know until May. If I know what I want to do why hang around. It makes no sense but as I said the most important thing is the titles, we won a trophy. We are really determined, we have a group that wants to win trophies. The team and the group are looking towards that. My situation inside the club no one talks about it and it doesn’t interest many people. What’s interesting is that I can help the team win titles.

Where does the team still need to improve?

You always have to improve, that’s normal. The coach arrived with clear ideas, lots of ideas. As good as the players are, it takes time to assimilate but I think we’re starting to see some interesting things. I don’t know what you think of it from the outside… I think it’s much more structured. We see it at the level of the offensive organization, at the level of the schemes, we see that something is emerging. Then maybe I’m crazy.

We will see on February 14 (Editor’s note: against Real Sociedad, in the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League)…

So, if it doesn’t happen on February 14, it’s because there are no ideas? I ask.

In relation to your positioning, a shot to the left then in the axis, how do you position yourself in relation to that?

He (Enrique) says that a good player can play in several positions. So I think I’m a good player (laughs). Today I play in the center, but what is good is that no matter what position I play, where we play, it adapts according to our qualities which means that we are not disoriented. No matter where I play, I think I will have no problem performing well.

Can this freedom and this importance that he gives you encourage you to stay at PSG?

Because before I wasn’t important? I have always been important. It’s a continuation of my evolution since I’ve been in Paris.
