Mexican Renata Zarazúa Makes History at Australian Open

Mexican Renata Zarazúa made history at the Australian Open, as she managed to qualify for the main draw of the first Grand Slam of the year. The tricolor beat the Australian Destanee Aiava and got her ticket to the First Round of the prestigious tournament.

Zarazúa had complications in the first set, where the national tennis player managed to win 7-6, however, the Mexican recovered and finally took the victory after a second set that ended 6-3 in her favor and a third, the decisive, also for his account (6-4).

To reach the main draw, Renata had to play three qualifying matches. First, the Mexican defeated Jaimee Fourlis, later she defeated the German Jule Niemeier and finally defeated Destanee Aiava.

Zarazúa achieved a milestone for Mexican tennis

As if it were a small feat – three consecutive victories and getting into the main draw of the tournament – qualifying for what is known as the First Round of the Australian Open, Zarazúa became the first Mexican tennis player to achieve this milestone in 24 years.

Once she beat Aiava, the tricolor tennis player could not contain her emotion and thanked those who came to see her and who also celebrated the victory. Now, Renata will prepare for Sunday’s match, the day in which she will play against the Italian Martina Trevisan.
