On the Washington side, we are getting rid of two pieces that are not part of the long-term project to recover younger players and Draft rounds. An impossible bet to lose as the initial investment is minimal. Marvin Bagley III will experience his third franchise since his arrival in the NBA and although the label bust seems impossible to detach, his talent exists and could why not demonstrate itself better in a new environment.
In Detroit, the operation seems purely financial. Bagley III’s contract is relatively high ($12.8 million this season) and runs until 2025 while Gallinari and Muscala, the two recovered players, are out of contract at the end of the year. The Pistons thus leave themselves some margin to be able to invest during the next offseason.
Detroit moves Bagley’s contract ($12.5M in 2024-2025) for two future second-round picks. Livers ($1.8M), Gallinari ($6.8M) and Muscala ($3.5M) are on expiring contracts.
