Pacers Defeat Celtics (133-131) Despite Haliburton’s Injury

The Indiana Pacers beat the Boston Celtics (133-131) but lost Tyrese Haliburton to injury shortly before the end of the second quarter. Down by 11 points towards the halfway point of the game, the Pacers still found the resources to come back from Boston, who leads the East Conference and is currently the best NBA team with 28 wins and 8 defeats. The Celtics are the favorites for the NBA title. Star Jayson Tatum did not play against the Pacers. Without him, Jaylen Brown took the reins of the team with 40 points but no success. The Memphis Grizzlies, however, have announced the end of their leader Ja Morant’s season: he sub-dislocated his shoulder during training and needs surgery. The 24-year-old will have had a very short start to the 2023-24 season: he only started on December 19 after a 25-game suspension for posting images of himself brandishing firearms last year. In the other games of the evening, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (32 points) led Oklahoma City to victory against Washington (136-128). The Chicago Bulls dominated Charlotte (119-112) despite 39 points from Terry Rozier. Giannis Tokantempo’s Milwaukee Bucks (25 points, 11 rebounds) were surprisingly overcome at home by the Utah Jazz (132-116).
