The actor and comedian Pete Davidson reveals some of his intimate secrets in Netflix’s second “stand-u” special, which premiered yesterday, Wednesday.
One of those secrets was that he was high during Aretha Franklin’s funeral. In “Turbo Fonzarelli” he offered a vision of that event, which he attended as a guest of his then-fiancee Ariana Grande.
In a mix of frankness and dark humor, the former Saturday Night Live member admitted that, during the funeral service of the iconic soul and R&B singer, he was under the influence of ketaminea drug that he used for four years to treat depression and that was recently found in the body of Matthew Perry, being indicated as a factor in his death in the forensic report.
“I’m ashamed to have been away from home like that. That’s not right,” said the 31-year-old actor. emphasizing the irresponsibility of their actions. Davidson then joked that Franklin wouldn’t even have known who he was if she had been alive, much less what she was doing at her funeral, claiming that the Queen of Soul “will never know” that she was on drugs.
This statement could make sense, since, despite his growing fame, Davidson was not that famous five years ago when he attended Aretha’s funeral as the partner of Ariana Grande, who was already globally recognized.
Beyond humor, he added sincerely: “Still, that’s not the point, I was so high that I thought it would be a good idea to go up to his family and say, ‘Hey! I’m just here to pay my RESPECTS!” Davidson also revealed that it was not the only funeral he had attended after using ketamine at that time, revealing a part of his life marked by addiction and impulsive decisions.
