Playing Fortnite in Fenway Park with a Twist

A handsome and mysterious stranger from Boston has found a whole new way to play Epic Games’ incredible cooperative and competitive multiplayer video game.

Over Christmas break I shamelessly played a ton of LEGO Fortnite…the emphasis is on the word “unapologetic.” You couldn’t tear me away from this game while I was on vacation. One day after Christmas, a friend stayed over at my house for the holidays, and we woke up, grabbed Popeyes, and then she watched me play. LEGO Fortnite. I was in it Fortnite paradis.

But hanging out in your winter pajamas isn’t the best way to experience Fortnite. Not by far. With the MLB offseason still underway, they’ve transformed Fenway Park’s jumbotron into a giant one. Fortnite video screen. This might be the most incredible use of the Red Sox ballpark yet (because God knows the Red Sox don’t put this thing to good use as is).

Wake up, darling! Were playing Fortnite au parc Fenway !

The news came from Above the monster Jacques Roy who saw Fortnite start on the Fenway Park jumbotron from his office Thursday. He then took a photo of the Fortnite lobby screen for Battle Royale mode. A Fortnite a cutscene was also shown on set, suggesting whoever was using the huge screen hadn’t been playing Fortnite for a while – or, perhaps, I was accessing the game from a new device.

Roy spent the day speculating about who might have used the Fenway jumbotron to play. Fortnite, ultimately deciding that they were probably “people from Fenway operations who were bored at work and trying to kill a few minutes.” That’s pretty impressive if true, but a random Fenway employee isn’t going to get a call from Guinness anytime soon.

The Guinness World Record for “Largest Digital Video Game Display” is hosted by the Esports Awards with Xfinity, after posting a Pac-Man game at Resorts World Las Vegas. This screen was thousands and thousands of feet taller than Fenway’s video board. While it’s certainly possible that Fenway Park could win a Guinness World Record for “largest video display in Fortnite at Fenway Park during the baseball off-season.

Then again, Guinness isn’t exactly the greatest authority on world records, as YouTuber Hbomberguy pointed out in his ROBLOX_OOF.mp3 video. So there is always a chance that a larger, invisible demonstration of Fortnite was screened at Fenway Park during the offseason. Food for thought, eh? Speaking of food, I’m going to order some Popeyes and play LEGO Fortnite NOW.
