720 polar bears braved the cold water of the Blaarmeersen in Ghent this afternoon. “I said I would say yes more to challenges, so voila, here I am on the shivering dive,” responds one of the participants. It was the fifteenth edition and the most successful to date. It was completely sold out with 720 registrations. Participants were guided into the water in three time blocks.
A half-hour warm-up was provided. “It’s not really a pleasant temperature to stand outside in your swimming trunks, so some warming up was welcome,” says another participant. Then they counted down together, after which the sprint started towards the water of four degrees. “Everyone is older than 8 years old and medically in order,” emphasizes the Ghent sports service.
