San Francisco slightly ahead of Kansas City for sportsbooks in NFL title game

Super Bowl LVIII is defined with two old acquaintances as protagonists.

This Sunday the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs secured their place in the game to define the NFL champion, which will be a reissue of Super Bowl LIV that was played in 2020.

Although recent history favors Kansas City, San Francisco enters the game as a slight favorite at -1.5 (after initially opening at -2.5), according to ESPN BET.

In their previous matchup in Super Bowl LIV, the Chiefs won 31-20. In fact, since being under head coach Kyle Shanahan in 2017, the Niners are 0-3 against Kansas City and their three losses have been by double digit difference.

In that span, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has averaged 341 passing yards and the offense is averaging 37.7 points per matchup against the 49ers.

Kansas City secured its spot after beating the Baltimore Ravens 17-10 on the road to become the first team to advance to the Super Bowl as the No. 3 seed in its conference since the Indianapolis Colts achieved it in 2006.

For its part, San Francisco came from behind at home, recovering from a 17-point deficit in the first half to defeat the Detroit Lions with a tight 34-31.

This is the Chiefs’ fourth Super Bowl appearance in the last five years, as San Francisco makes it for the third time since the 2012 season but hasn’t won a title since 1994.
