Canadian Shawn Barber, former pole vault world champion, has died at the age of 29 at his home in Texas, his agent announced. At just 21 years old, Shawn Barber won the world title in 2015 in Beijing, clearing 5.90 m and in the same year he won his other great international crown at the Pan American Games in Toronto.

Through an Instagram message, his agent Paul Doyle announced the death of the Canadian athlete, without providing details on the circumstances of his death. «A friend we will never forget. Shawn Barber is dead,” he wrote. Shawn, still the Canadian record holder indoors at 6m and outdoors at 5.93m, was also an Olympic finalist at Rio 2016.
