SoftBank announced on the 25th that its slogan for 2024, which will be under a new system, has been decided to be “VIVA.” First-year manager Yuki Kokubo (52) held a press conference at the PayPay Dome and explained the details of the kanji character “Miha!”, which includes the word “beauty”, which he has set as a guideline, and the baseball world’s first three-dimensional logo. He also performed the “VIVA pose,” expressing a “V” with his right fingers, and was excited about winning the league for the first time in four years since 2020 and becoming number one in Japan.

“VIVA pose” where you raise your right thumb and index finger, make a “V” in front of your chest, and then push them diagonally forward to the right of your body. Director Kokubo, dressed in a crisp black suit, was able to masterfully execute the pose he had just been given a lecture on that day.

“Our slogan is “VIVA.” Of course, we will build a strong team.Individuals within that group will have a sense of beauty and take on high challenges, and in the end, we will win and share the victory with everyone. That’s what I want.”

Inaugural press conference at the end of October last year. Kokubo’s “beautiful baseball” attracted attention when he said, “I think it lacks beauty.” Naturally, the new slogan also includes the word “beauty.” From November of the same year, he attended planning meetings with the front desk. “VIVA” was the first of about 50 ideas. It was officially approved at the time of the owner report on January 17th of this year. True to its original intention, it was written in kanji and accompanied by an exclamation mark, “Beautiful!”. “Each one of us will develop ourselves with a sense of beauty and break down the wall of not having won in three years.” Although he has a strong opinion, he likes the catchy sound of two-letter words, the ease of understanding, and the positive puns.

The three-dimensional yellow logo also has a meaning. The so-called “VIVA Cube” was designed with the image of a huge team organization in mind. “We thought of each person in each department as a unit, and created the baseball world’s first three-dimensional logo. I hope it becomes popular.” Coach Kokubo’s wish for unity as a team was reflected in this format.

Japan’s No. 1 league title, which has been away since 20 years. The pennant was lost to Orix for the third consecutive year. The long battle against the champion begins with the opening game on March 29th (Kyocera Dome). He is enthusiastic, saying, “If I don’t defeat him as a challenger, I won’t be able to move up.”

The team recommends the “VIVA pose” when they win a game, but the new coach is naturally concerned about beauty. “The coach doesn’t pose much. The players don’t look very pretty during the game either. After the game.” The new slogan means “Long Live” in Latin, and is a familiar phrase used during celebrations and toasts. “I want to win, win and have fun with VIVA.” It’s the first thing you shout when you reach the top. The fight to make this a reality is about to begin. (Mitsuo Inoue)

[Chairman Oh also responded well]Team president Sadaharu Oh also responded favorably to the new slogan. When asked about his impressions at the team office, he answered, “VIVA. I just heard about it. Well, it was a little disappointing for three years (missing the championship). The manager was also changed and things were going to be completely overhauled. It made me feel like hell from heaven. That’s why. Let’s put all our energy into it starting with camp this year. (Miyazaki) I’m going.” He also revealed that the camp will start on the first day of the camp on February 1st.
