Jayson Tatum scored 30 points and made two blocks in the last 30 seconds of play to preserve the lead of the Boston Celtics who won 129 to 124 over the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday.

Without Bennedict Mathurin in the lineup for this meeting, the Pacers still found their star player Tyrese Haliburton who had missed 10 of his team’s last 11 games due to a hamstring injury.

Haliburton finished the game with 13 points and 10 rebounds. He especially stood out at the end of the second quarter when his throw from the center of the field ended up in the basket at the sound of the siren. He thus gave a moment of rejoicing to the Pacers who were trailing 81 to 66 when they returned to the locker room.

Jaylen Brown had 25 points and Derrick White added 24 to the scoreboard. Aaron Nesmith led the Pacers with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Pascal Siakam followed with 23 points.

The Pacers trailed by 20 points at one point in the game, but were able to get within three points late in the game. With the Celtics up 127-124, White recorded a big block on a throw from downtown by Nesmith. Tatum followed up by depriving Turner of a basket.

Kristaps Porzingis was in uniform after missing two games with a sprained left ankle. He had a double of 17 points and 12 rebounds.
