Terry Rozier arrives transferred to the Miami Heat

MIAMI (AP) — Kyle Lowry is in the final year of his contract, he spent the last couple of weeks in a bad patch and a few days ago he even lost his place in the Miami Heat’s starting lineup.

A trade seemed inevitable, and the Charlotte Hornets helped make it happen.

Lowry was loaned on Tuesday by the Heat to the Hornets in exchange for Terry Rozier, who is having the best season of his career. The point guard swap would be helpful for Miami in its attempt to advance to the postseason.

The defending Eastern Conference champion Heat will also send a first-round draft pick to the Hornets to complete the deal. The selection will be protected by the draft lottery for 2027. If it involves the first selections, Charlotte will carry out the draft in 2028.

“Man, Kyle has been one of my favorite teammates, if not the favorite,” Heat captain Bam Adebayo said. “He has always talked about ways to have the ball and give it to me with advantages. He is optimistic, like a brother to me, and he will continue to be that.”

Rozier will wear number 2 for the Heat, and the team was already working on Tuesday to prepare his uniform, just in case he can play this Wednesday, when Miami hosts Memphis.

He wore number 3 in Charlotte. That number is retired in Miami, in honor of Dwyane Wade, one of Rozier’s favorite players.
