The Benefits of Joining a Recreational Badminton Association

Badminton on the street, on the beach, at the campsite, who doesn’t know it. “You can also play badminton in the hall at an association, work on your fitness once a week, be healthy and sporty,” says Frank Wijte, chairman of BV Zuidwester. “And also fun with a group of like-minded people of all age groups. And it is certainly fun at the Zuidwester. And that has been the case for 48 years!

Affordable

But hey, these are also expensive times around the holidays. And even though the recent price increases have now decreased considerably, the fact is that everyone is paying more attention to their expenses. Rightly so. Is badminton now an expensive sport? We don’t think so, especially compared to other indoor sports. At our association, the membership fee has been kept extremely low, namely 110 euros for an entire year. That’s less than 10 euros per month! You can play badminton about 40 times a year on Monday evenings. For beginners, a training of 5 evenings is included.”

You also need indoor shoes and a racket. Both are available in price ranges from a few tens of euros to a few hundred euros. Frank: “Even for a few tens of euros you can get excellent equipment that you can use in the hall. And everyone still has clothes, a T-shirt, polo, sports shirt and shorts or sweatpants (as long as they are comfortable) in their closet. You can make your equipment as expensive as you want, but with very limited costs you can come and play.”

Give it a try

Knowing more? You can always try it out. Frank: “You can come and play for two evenings, for free and without obligations, so that you can see if you like the game and we can tell you more about the costs and membership. And if you like it, we hope that you will become a member of our association. You can further improve your playing level through our training. Of course, experienced players are also very welcome. On our website www.bvzuidwester.nl you will find more information and you can register for trial games.”

Recreational

BV Zuidwester is a Heerhugowaard badminton club, which plays recreationally on Monday evenings in the Deimoshal, Deimoslaan 13 in Heerhugowaard. Recreational means that the members play matches with each other, but that the association is not a member of the badminton association and does not participate in national competitions. This means that the membership fee can be kept extremely low, while you can still be enthusiastic and healthy. Teams from the Zuidwester do participate in the mutual competition of a number of recreational associations in the north of North Holland.

If you would like to come and watch on Monday evening or become a member, please contact Gert van der Kruk on 06-2256 0464 or [email protected]. New members (14 years and older) are always welcome. If you become a member now you can play the first two evenings for free. “Inexperienced players are also very welcome,” Frank emphasizes. “We organize beginners training almost continuously, so that you can quickly get started. In addition, there are also training courses where advanced students can improve their level. More information on our site: www.bvzuidwester.nl.”
