The Italian football team’s all-time top scorer Riva has died

In the Italian football team, Riva scored 35 goals in 42 matches. With “Gli Azzurri” he triumphed in the European Championship in 1968 and two years later he competed until the World Cup final, where he lost 1:4 to Brazil represented by Pele.

The striker spent almost his entire career in the “Cagliari” team, which he led to the club’s only victory in the Italian championship in 1970. He scored more than 200 goals for Cagliari and was Serie A’s top scorer for three seasons.

Riva’s career was affected by two serious injuries, including a broken leg in 1970, which prevented Cagliari from winning a second title in a row.

After his retirement, Riva worked for the Italian national team as a manager and director for 25 years.
