What is the origin of cheese hats and what do they mean?
It is no longer something that is seen exclusively at the Packers’ home, because Green Bay fans go to all the stadiums where their team plays.
But, where and how does this tradition of wearing cheese hats come from? Well it’s all thanks to the pride they feel in the city of the Packers for the dairy product.
Wisconsin is the fourth largest cheese producer in the world. According to Sportsboil26% of American cheese is produced in that citySo, Packers fans adopted cheese as part of their emblem.

From insult to pride for Packers fans
That term “cheeseheads” was used by people outside of Wisconsin to insult the people there, including the Packers, but they were not the first to be called that, because the Milwaukee Brewers took insults first in 1987.
In that same 1987, Ralph Bruno – a fan – decided that he would create cheese-shaped hats. He made them with the foam from a sofa his mother had and took it straight to a Brewers game..
From that moment on, the tradition began for fans of the Brewers, the Packers and any team in Wisconsin to wear cheese hats in stadiums.
