The United States Announces Star-Studded 41-Player Roster for Men’s Basketball at Paris 2024 Olympics

The United States men’s basketball team was announced with 41 top NBA players

From July 26 to August 11, 2024, the Paris Olympic Games will be held and sport begins to beat the biggest event. Almost six months in advance, the United States announced the list of 41 players that make up the men’s basketball preselection with numerous NBA stars.

The great objective of USA Basketball is to obtain the gold medal in Paris 2024, so it will seek to put together the best possible team to clean up the negative image that the team gave in the last World Cup (it finished fourth) and retain the Olympic gold achieved in the last four editions (Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020).

The sports director and former NBA figure, Grant Hill, announced the roster that will begin work in the first days of July led by Steve Kerr and which includes 28 players who have represented the United States in the Olympic Games and in the FIBA World Cup and together they have accumulated 23 Olympic or world gold medals. A figure that scares rivals.

Among the main stars of the new Dream Team are the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, LeBron James, the competition’s latest MVP, Joel Embiid and other top players of the caliber of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, James Harden, Paul George, Kyrie Irving, Kawhi Leonard, Damian Lillard, Jayson Tatum, Anthony Edwards and Chris Paul, among others.

The case of Embiid, a Philadelphia Sixers figure, has sparked controversy, since the center born in Cameroon and nationalized French was in the plans of the French national team for the Olympic Games, but was summoned for USA Basketball. His situation is similar to that of Paolo Banchero, who played in the last World Cup for the United States, generating discomfort in Italy, which had tried to sign him due to his dual nationality.

“The United States has incredible talent in basketball and I am delighted that many of the game’s superstars have expressed interest in representing our country at the 2024 Summer Olympics,” said Grant Hill. “It is a privilege to select the team that will help us achieve the goal of being on the top of the Olympic podium again. This challenging process will unfold over the next few months as we eagerly anticipate the start of national team activity,” he concluded in statements to the official website of the North American team.

The United States will be one of the representatives of America in Paris 2024 along with Canada, which was third in the last World Cup. The rest of those classified for the Olympic event (four places remain in the repechages) at the moment are: France (organizing country), Germany (world champion), Serbia (runner-up), Australia (best in Oceania), South Sudan ( best in Africa) and Japan (best in Asia).

The North American team has already confirmed a series of preparatory friendlies for the Olympic event that will help Kerr define the 12 members that will make up the final squad. On July 10 they will face Canada in Las Vegas and then travel to London to face South Sudan (07/20) and Germany (07/22).
